BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PLANT AND ITS PRESENCE

Tahuari is a tree that grows in the hilly areas of the Peruvian Amazonia. It grows up to 30 meters high, and the trunk diameter can be even up to 3 meters. Green/grey/brown bark is rough, sometimes cracked, soft and kind of sweet on the inside. The leaves have elliptic shape, are crooked, shiny, and green/brown. Tahuari blooms richly with exceptionally beautiful flowers in the shape of yellow, white, or purple bells. Because of that the trees are a great addition to the landscape. The elongated, ovoid fruit grow 12-60 cm big. They contain brown/grey, winged seeds. The most precious part of the tree is the inner bark, use as a medicine for many health issues, and as a support for treating cancer, mostly metastases. What is interesting, there are a couple of types of that tree which grow all over South America. Tahuari – Tabebuia – Serratifolia is significant mostly of Peru. Because it contains, among other things, lapachol – it is often confused with another tree: Tabebuia Impetiginosa, also known as Lapacho. Yet, the properties of these two trees are not the same.

MORE INFORMATION

The research carried out on the 90s of the 20th century, showed the efficiency of the brew from liber – the inner bark of Tahuari – in treating cancer, especially during the metastases processes. It is hoped that we can also use it to cure AIDS. It is also used for treating leukemia. However, Tahuari also has other, equally important, properties: anti-inflammation, fungicidal, anti-virus, antibacterial, antalgic, and the one similar to antibiotics.
It is recommended in different kinds of inflammation, hepatitis, pancreas inflammation, diabetes, gall stones, digestion problems, constipation, ulcers, bloatedness, nephritis, and urinary ways, airways diseases, bronchitis, pertussis, the flu, a cold, cough, fever, rheumatism, arthritis, STD, and anemia. It also helps in case of parasite infection, candidiasis, moulds, and chlamys.
The brew is also use for rinsing wounds (speeds up the healing), and external usage for skin diseases. The inner part of the bark is used by the local Indians to fight malaria, fever, and venomous snake bites.
